Carnaval Weekend 1: Valencia

March 5-6, 2011
Saturday Bea and I headed to Valencia to celebrate Carnaval with her friends. Carnaval in Spain is the equivalent to Mardi Gras in the US. It celebrates the beginning of Lent. So we went to spend the first weekend of Carnaval en Valencia.
We spent the beginning of the night eating pizza and getting dressed as "Rockeras" or Rock Stars. The Friday night before Bea and I went shopping in Motilla for costumes. I bought my costume in purple and Bea bought hers in red. In the end, as you will see from the pictures, Bea didn't end up wearing her red wig but I still rocked the purple wig... hey, you only live once.

After we were dressed and ready, we drove to the disco and had a botellón, drinking in the parking lot listening to music from your car, before heading into the club. We got free admission because we were dressed in costume and got pictures with our favorite costumes.

The next day we got up and headed to the beach for a walk and paella!! My favorite part about going to Valencia is walking on the beach and eating paella. I could go here every weekend just for these two things.

The beach with my fav...palm trees!
Group shot on the beach.

Seafood paella...kinda ate most of it before I remembered to take a picture...
It was such a great weekend...Bea's friends are so amazing. They treat me just like one of them. I love hanging out with them not only because I get to speak Spanish but I really feel like they have an interest in me and my life. Thank you girls for a great weekend!
