Sardinia, Italy: Day 1

Sardinia, Italy
March 25-27

Two of the English teachers I work with invited me to go with them to Sardinia, Italy or Cerdeña, Italia (Spanish) or Sardegna (Italian). I was super excited that they invited me and wanted me to tag along so I accepted their invitation without hesitation! We had Friday the 25 of March off and so they wanted to take advantage of an extra day. We went to Madrid on Thursday night. I met my teachers are the bus station after my private classes and we caught the last bus from Cuenca to Madrid at 8 pm. We got in around 10:30 and took the Metro to our hotel. We walked around the block to a small cafe to have a bocadillo before bed. We went to bed around 1:00 A.M and it really hurt to set the alarm for 5:30 A.M...

When the alarm went off we got dressed and were about to catch the shuttle to the airport when one of my teachers realized she didn't have her purse. She had left it at the bar last night. The bar didn't open until 7 for breakfast and our plane left at 7:45. So we headed to the airport anyways. Carolina and I had our passports and ID's but our plane tickets were in Bea's purse. So we went to the Ryanair (our airline) counter and had to pay an extra (super ridiculously expensive and completely unneccesary) fee for them to print us out another ticket. So Bea went to talk to the police to see if she could get on the plane somehow. They said no but luckily the hotel called saying they had her bag. So she took a taxi back to the hostel to get her bag while Carolina and I went through security and got in line to board. We had our fingers crossed that she would be able to make it through in enough time to get on the plane. As we were waiting in line, we saw her running towards us. So she made it!

We landed in Calgary and spent the morning there exploring the city, walking up and down the streets.

Gorgeous.

Cathedral.

It was super warm out, the sun was shining I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt... the ingredients to make me a happy girl. To make it even better, we ate lunch out on the terrace of a restaurant in the main plaza. Red wine, pizza and dessert. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect Italian lunch.

Carolina and Bea.

Afternoon toast.

Spicy Olive Oil.

Caprese Salad.

Pizza: Tomato, Red Pepper, Onion and Sausage.

Tiramisu.
After lunch we had to go to Hertz to get our rental car. With the car, we went on a drive along the coast and stopped to walk for a while on the beach. It was really windy, a little chilly but still beautiful. It felt amazing to have my feet in the sand, walking along the surf.

After the beach, we went back to the hostel and got freshened up before dinner. We went on a walk to the stores looking at postcards, art, books and shops with typical food: pasta and cheeses. After working up our appetite we went to a small local restaurant for dinner.
Our jarra of wine for 5 euros.

I got the pasta typical of Sardinia: gnoccetti.

Mussel soup.

Salud Ladies!

With Bea.

and Carolina.

After dinner chupitos.

Limoncello or Lemonchello... simply delicious.
After dinner, we walked back up to the old town and went to a bar with a great view and had a night cap.

We called it a night around 1 A.M. because we had to get up early to begin the next day of sightseeing.

Let the adventure continue!

ciao!
jaclyn
